Hays Recruitment is seeking an expression of interest from an Electrician to join the maintenance team at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. This is a rare opportunity to work in one of the world's most remote and unique environments, helping to maintain the critical infrastructure that supports daily operations at the station. Working alongside a close-knit team of skilled tradespeople, you'll play an important role in keeping facilities operating safely and efficiently. Location: McMurdo Station, Antarctica (approximately 1000 residents in summer season)Rate: $55 per hour (WAGES, which means you'll also get annual leave, time and half (for public holidays) and lieu days)Deployment: October 2026 – Feb 2026 (ideally you will be flexible, and able to stay on longer if required)
Expected Skills and Competencies:Trade-qualified Electrician with current NZ Registration and Practising Licence.Experience in commercial, industrial, maintenance, or construction electrical work.Strong fault-finding, testing, maintenance, and repair skills.Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.Sound knowledge of electrical standards, regulations, and health and safety requirements.Experience with preventative maintenance, inspections, and breakdown response.Strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Computer literacy and experience using maintenance management systems.Commitment to safe work practices and quality workmanship.What to expect when you’re down there:
