Varaha is a global climate‑technology venture that designs and scales carbon‑removal solutions such as regenerative agriculture, afforestation, bio‑char production, and enhanced rock weathering. In just three years, the company has removed and avoided more than one million tonnes of CO₂, channeling the majority of its revenue back to over 100,000 smallholder land stewards across South Asia and Sub‑Saharan Africa. Backed by leading investors and led by a team with deep experience in agri‑tech and sustainability, Varaha is expanding its operational footprint and needs reliable data to measure impact, refine methodologies, and report to stakeholders.
The Data Collector will be a critical link in Varaha’s data pipeline. Working from the field office in Wardha, the incumbent will travel to partner farms, community sites, and project locations to gather both quantitative measurements (e.g., soil samples, tree growth metrics) and qualitative insights (e.g., farmer interviews, observation notes). All data must be recorded promptly, entered into the company’s spreadsheet systems, and cross‑checked for consistency. The role demands strict adherence to Varaha’s data‑collection protocols, which are designed to meet scientific standards and ensure that the information can be used for rigorous impact assessment.
Key duties include conducting scheduled surveys, setting up mobile data‑collection tools, and transcribing handwritten notes into digital formats. The Data Collector will also be responsible for flagging any anomalies, missing entries, or out‑of‑range values so that the research team can investigate promptly. Basic reporting tasks, such as summarising weekly data collection totals or preparing simple visual tables for internal briefings, are part of the job. Coordination with supervisors, field coordinators, and local land stewards is essential to keep the data flow smooth and to respect local customs and confidentiality requirements.
Success in this role hinges on a high degree of accuracy, an eye for detail, and the ability to work independently in remote environments. The candidate must be comfortable using Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, as well as any mobile survey applications provided by Varaha. Strong communication skills are required to interact respectfully with farmers, community leaders, and internal team members. While prior professional experience is not mandatory, familiarity with basic survey techniques and a willingness to learn Varaha’s specific data standards are essential.
Varaha offers a six‑month contract that provides exposure to cutting‑edge climate‑tech projects and the chance to see how high‑quality data directly influences large‑scale carbon‑removal initiatives. The position is on‑site in Wardha, allowing the Data Collector to experience the day‑to‑day realities of smallholder agriculture and to contribute meaningfully to Varaha’s mission of scaling sustainable land‑use practices.
Applicants should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be proficient with spreadsheet software, and demonstrate a strong commitment to data integrity and ethical handling of sensitive information. The role does not require advanced technical certifications, but a basic understanding of survey methodology and field data collection will be advantageous.
Varaha values diversity, local knowledge, and a collaborative spirit. Candidates who are self‑motivated, adaptable, and eager to work in a fast‑moving, impact‑driven environment are encouraged to apply.
