At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most. The Data and Storage Services team is responsible for Affirm's data infrastructure across OLTP and OLAP systems, spanning critical online checkout databases, batch orchestration, streaming infrastructure, event-driven frameworks, BI, analytics tooling, large-scale data platforms, and agentic data tools such as semantic layers and internal platform data applications. Our mission is to provide trustworthy, intuitive, and cost-efficient solutions for Affirmers to secure, store, analyze, and transform data at exceptional scale. The Online Storage team provides a set of managed databases as a platform, used to persist data for all Affirm services. Our platform enables self-service access to OLTP storage systems, including Relational DB(MySQL), KV(DynamoDB), Distributed SQL(TiDB) and Cache(Redis). As a team, we are responsible for various data and access patterns, including but not limited to mission-critical financial transactional data, data science models, and any new persistence use case. These responsibilities require us to learn and gain deep expertise in various database systems. We are looking for a talented Software Engineer who can build and scale Cache Services (Redis and Valkey) identifying opportunities to improve how we migrate, productionize, operate, self-service and improve this mission-critical infrastructure to unlock substantial value within our business. You’ll have the opportunity to directly influence your team’s roadmap in close collaboration with your peers, share your knowledge and expertise with others and learn from some of the best on our shared mission to deliver honest financial products that improve lives. What you’ll do Build and scale Affirm's Cache Services on Redis and Valkey, owning cluster migrations end to end and delivering them in phases against agreed outcomes. Productionize cache clusters: capacity and shard planning, failover and replication setup, upgrades, and staged rollouts with rollback paths. Replace manual cache requests (provisioning, config changes, access) with automated, audited self-service workflows. Operate the fleet in production: define SLOs, build alerting for hot keys, memory pressure and replication lag, and use on-call findings to reduce KTLO. Partner with client teams on caching strategy (key design, TTLs, consistency, client timeouts) and feed fleet data into the team's roadmap. With the support of your team’s tech lead and manager, you will break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work. Support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs. Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts. Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process. What we look for 2+ years of experience as a software engineer. Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems and are proficient in one of Python or Kotlin. Familiar with the building blocks of distributed systems, and the technologies like AWS, MySQL, Redis/Valkey, Terraform and Kubernetes. Have worked on Redis, Valkey or a comparable in-memory store in production and understand replication, persistence, cluster mode, eviction, and their failure modes. Can reason about a caching workload end to end: hit rates, tail latency, hot keys, stampedes, and consistency with the source of truth. Experience automating infrastructure operations with Terraform, Kubernetes and Python, and prefer tested playbooks over manual runbooks. Experience carrying on-call for a stateful service and can take an incident from metrics to root cause to a durable fix. You have mastered taking a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, and executing on it by writing clear, easily understood, well tested and extensible code. Comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback to other engineers through code reviews. Demonstrated experience that you take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team. At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most. About Our Team Visual Design turns complex financial products into experiences customers can understand, trust, and remember. Through motion, illustration, and visual storytelling, we connect brand promise to product reality, bringing clarity and cohesion to every moment, from discovery and onboarding to everyday use. We partner with Product Design, Brand, Content Design, Engineering, and Product Marketing to create expressive, accessible, and scalable experiences across Affirm’s ecosystem. Our role is to elevate the quality of execution, build visual systems that help teams move with consistency, and use craft to guide attention, explain value, and create moments of confidence and delight. We ensure Affirm does not simply work well - it communicates clearly, feels unmistakably our own, and earns customer trust at every touchpoint. About the Role We’re looking for a motion-forward Visual Designer who brings strong craft in animation, visual storytelling, and illustration. You’ll help elevate the quality and consistency of customer experiences across Affirm’s product ecosystem, using motion to guide attention, explain product behavior, improve comprehension, and create moments of clarity and delight. This role sits at the intersection of product and brand. Your work will range from in-product interactions and animated illustrations to web, email communications, lifecycle journeys, and product launches. You’ll pair deep motion and visual-design craft with UX thinking and an understanding of design systems to create experiences that are cohesive, accessible, scalable, and purposeful. You think holistically about end-to-end customer journeys, care deeply about craft, and understand how thoughtful motion and visual systems can make experiences both functional and emotionally engaging. What You’ll Do Design motion-forward experiences across in-app surfaces, web, email, lifecycle comms, and product marketing, with a focus on clarity, accessibility, performance, and storytelling. Create animations, motion studies, animated illustrations, iconography, and interaction patterns that explain product behavior, guide attention, and improve customer comprehension. Own defined visual and motion-design projects from concept and storyboarding through production and implementation, maintaining a consistently high level of craft. Contribute to product-design initiatives by mapping user flows, developing interaction concepts, and carrying solutions through high-fidelity design and prototyping. Create and extend reusable visual assets, motion patterns, guidelines, and components that strengthen Affirm’s product and communication systems. Collaborate with Product Design, Design Systems, Product, Engineering, Brand, Content Design, Lifecycle, and Growth partners to deliver cohesive end-to-end experiences. Prepare production-ready assets and specifications, partnering with engineers to ensure motion and visual details are accessible, performant, and implemented as intended. What We Look For 3+ years of professional experience in motion, animation, visual, communication, or product design within a product-driven environment. A portfolio demonstrating strong motion and visual-design craft, including animation, interaction, illustration, and storytelling across digital product experiences. Strong knowledge of animation principles, including timing, pacing, easing, transitions, and choreography, and proficiency with tools such as After Effects, LottieFiles, Rive, or comparable software. Mastery of tools including Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, LottieFiles, and relevant 2D/3D animation tools. Familiarity with HTML/CSS and the technical constraints of production environments (especially in email and mobile). UX and product-design experience, including an understanding of user flows, interaction design, information hierarchy, and how motion can support an end-to-end experience. Ability to storyboard, prototype, and articulate design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences alike. Ability to independently deliver defined projects, communicate design rationale, incorporate feedback, and collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, marketers, and other cross-functional partners. What you'll do Own end-to-end compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program, including card marketing, checkout, onboarding, wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), disputes, and servicing, partnering directly with Product, Engineering, and Operations throughout the development lifecycle Bring an appetite for the unknown: much of what we build on Card is genuinely new and without precedent, and you take on that ambiguity rather than wait for a playbook Apply sound judgment under EFTA (Reg E), TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act, UDAAP, to navigate novel regulatory questions, escalating only where it's genuinely warranted Review and approve Affirm Card marketing, disclosures, and UX to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and consistency with consumer protection standards Lead root-cause analysis and remediation for Card compliance issues (e.g., disputes, adverse action notices, declines) through to sustainable closure, prioritizing durable fixes over one-off patches so issues don't recur Partner with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk to prepare for and support regulatory exams and bank partner audits related to the Card program Maintain and contribute to the Card program's compliance risk assessment and control inventory, proactively identifying and closing coverage gaps Develop and maintain compliance training and reference materials specific to Card regulatory requirements Serve as the go-to compliance expert on new and evolving Card features, surfacing risk early in the product lifecycle rather than after launch What we look for 8+ years of experience in a compliance advisory role within financial services with a Bachelor's degree (6+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent), with meaningful experience on card, payments; compliance certifications a plus Deep working knowledge of EFTA (Reg E) and TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act as applied to card products, plus familiarity with TISA (Reg DD) and UDAAP; hands-on experience with card network rules (e.g., Visa, Mastercard) is a big plus A demonstrated track record of operating independently in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, making sound, risk-based decisions with incomplete information and escalating only when it truly requires it Comfortable partnering closely with Product from the early stages of a build, whether a new product, feature, or servicing program, in fast-paced, ambiguous environments Experience owning issues from root-cause analysis through sustainable remediation, with a bias toward fixing the underlying control rather than the immediate symptom Experience advising and building credibility with Product, Engineering, and Operations stakeholders on a card, lending, or payments program Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex, nuanced regulatory issues to non-compliance audiences Self-directed with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; comfortable being the compliance voice in the room on card-specific questions, including presenting to senior leadership and leadership committees Inquisitive and proactive in identifying problems and proposing practical, business-aware solutions Base Pay Grade - L Equity Grade - 6 Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range.
