Team Lead, Android Core Product - Brighton, United Kingdom
HQI 83
Remote Remote10/5/2026
Remote The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning. Over 50 million people use Speechify's text-to-speech products to turn whatever they're reading – PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites – into audio, so they can read faster, read more, and remember more. Speechify's text-to-speech reading products include its iOS app, Android App, Mac App, Chrome Extension, and Web App. Google recently named Speechify the Chrome Extension of the Year and Apple named Speechify its Design award winner for inclusivity for 2025. Today, nearly 200 people around the globe work on Speechify in a 100% distributed setting – Speechify has no office. These include frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and others from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, leading PhD programs like Stanford, high growth startups like Stripe, Vercel, Bolt, and many founders of their own companies. Overview Our Android app is the most used text-to-speech app in the Play Store, and the user base has grown faster than the way we build for it. We're looking for a Team Lead to own core product work and to raise how the team works around it. This is a hands-on role, and we want to be clear about the split. You'll be writing code, reviewing code, and owning features of your own — that doesn't shrink when you take this job. The rest of it is the part that doesn't happen on its own: catching when three people have solved the same problem separately, deciding which version everyone should use, and making sure the team's time goes to the work that actually needs a decision. If you want to stop building, this isn't the role. If you want the code you write to be the smaller half of your impact, it is. We are a flat organization that allows anyone to become a leader by showing excellent technical skills and delivering results consistently and fast. Work ethic, solid communication skills, and obsession with winning are paramount. What You'll Do • Own major features end to end, working closely with our design team — from the decision through to release. This is real delivery, not oversight • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features • Review pull requests and give the kind of feedback people learn from, not just approval • Unblock the team: notice when someone has been stuck on the same thing for two days, and go take a look yourself • Notice when something one person built should become the version the team uses, and see that change through • Keep the shared pieces in working order — tested, clear enough for someone else to pick up, and consolidated when three versions of the same thing appear • Call it when the team is ready to change how it works, rather than waiting for that to happen on its own • Reduce how much manual intervention it takes to get a correct release out • When the same problem shows up twice, get the underlying setup changed so there isn't a third time • Shift verification left: grow what can be checked automatically so the nightly build going to QA is a confirmation rather than the first time anyone finds out • Run planning so the team's attention goes to the work that still needs decisions rather than the work that's already clear • Work out how much review each area needs, and where a person always signs off regardless • Participate in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering, and bring the team's constraints into those rooms early • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for the QA team • Make sure the people early in their careers are getting work they can learn from, and the time to learn from it Some of your engineers will be skeptical about parts of how the team is asked to work. In our experience that skepticism tends to be specific and worth acting on, and the people raising it are often the right ones to hand the underlying problem to. An Ideal Candidate Should Have • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them • Something you introduced to a team that stuck after you stopped pushing it, and an honest account of what it cost to get there • Some comfort with the unpopular half of the job: asking people to change how they work, and living with the friction that follows • A view on which changes need heavy review and which don't, argued from what the system does • A track record of building things the rest of your team actually used, not only things that made you faster • The ability to describe how your team works with AI agents, not only how you do personally • Product design intuition, user empathy, and the drive to push Android UI/UX further than the spec asks for • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond what's outlined in the spec • Excellent communication skills Bonus • Building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS Technologies we use • Kotlin · Kotlin Coroutines · Kotlin Flow · Jetpack Navigation · Dagger 2 · Room · Custom Views, Canvas & Paint · Jetpack Compose · JUnit Interview process Several technical interviews plus an assessment on a real codebase. We aim to complete the process within 1 week. Use the tools you use every day. A good part of the process is a walkthrough where you talk through your reasoning — why this approach, what you considered and dropped, where you were unsure. Think you’re a good fit for this job? Tell us more about yourself and why you're interested in the role when you apply. And don’t forget to include links to your portfolio and LinkedIn. Not looking but know someone who would make a great fit? Refer them! Speechify is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Speechify does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence . As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster. We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI. We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services. If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe. About the Role: The "Spark" modular data center is Crusoe’s answer to congested grid queues and labor bottlenecks, enabling rapid deployment of compute capacity. To meet our ambitious deployment goals through 2030, we need world-class hardware product development and new product introduction (NPI) execution. We are seeking a Hardware Technical Project Manager to own the new product development process for Spark. You will be responsible for the end-to-end hardware development lifecycle, from scoping and planning, to the detailed design through First-Of-A-Kind builds. This role will be based out of our Denver office in Cherry Creek, with frequent travel to our Brighton, CO manufacturing facility and infrequent travel (less than 10%) to other sites as needed. In this role, “hardware” and “product” refer to the physical Spark modules: structural steel frames, power and cooling distribution, control systems, and fire & life safety infrastructure. You support the Spark program by ensuring the product design team delivers what manufacturing needs for prototypes and first-of-a-kind (FOAK) builds, coordinating drawing sets and schedules across internal teams and external partners. You will partner closely with Cloud Product, the team that owns the compute architecture: servers, GPUs, storage, networking, and rack specifications. What You'll Be Working On: New Product Development • Project Management: Manage the schedule, budget, and scope for Spark design programs - new product generations, incremental upgrades, or sub-assembly workstreams - from concept to mass production, including driving the Design-to-BoM process with respective stakeholders. • Requirements Management: Synthesize inputs from a large cross-functional team to capture engineering/design requirements and drive product-level decision making in partnership with product managers and design leads. • New Product Introduction: Partner with Crusoe’s manufacturing team to ensure the Spark can be produced reliably at scale. Drive consensus on configuration management, rev control, and the myriad of details required to take a design from CAD to the shop floor. • Risk Mitigation: Foster a culture of proactive risk identification and mitigation. • Phase Gate Rigor: Collaborate with the Spark Business Unit to bring phase gate rigor to our development projects, plan and host key milestone reviews. Meticulously record lessons learned and identify opportunities for continuous process improvement. Cross-Functional Orchestration • Internal Connectivity: Serve as the connective tissue between the diverse set of internal and external stakeholders required to bring first of a kind designs to fruition. • Design Process Cadence: Schedule, plan, and run team meetings and multi-day design reviews with clear agendas, minutes, and action items. • Contractor Management : Manage the scope of 3rd-Party firms to accelerate our time to market and to amplify Crusoe’s internal expertise. • Reporting: Provide high-fidelity project status updates for the executives, focusing on predictability and critical path items, coordinating with the Lead Technical Project Manager to help develop, manage and distribute a Spark deployments dashboard. What You'll Bring to the Team: • A Safety-First Approach: A relentless commitment to safety. Demonstrated expertise leading FMEA & risk tracking for complex product development programs. • Product Development Leadership: 8-12+ years of experience managing high-tech physical product development programs and first-of-a-kind projects (e.g. data centers, distributed energy/energy OEM, advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles, modular construction). Mastery of more than one New Product Development stage-gate processes (e.g. LOD, APQP, TRL, etc.) • Schedule Mastery: Demonstrated expertise in scheduling software; you leverage schedules as a proactive decision making tool. • Technical Acumen: Evidence of technical breadth and curiosity to manage engineering requirements, evaluate trade-offs, connect the dots, and surface risks across electrical, mechanical, structural, EHS, network engineering, and manufacturing. • Vendor & Contract Management: Experience managing and coordinating across multiple third-party service providers whose deliverables impact the critical path. • Manufacturing Scale-Up: First-hand experience in manufacturing environments, collaborating with manufacturing and NPI teams on prototype and first-of-a-kind builds. A strong grasp of the product development prerequisites to enable reliable and repeatable manufacturing at scale, as well as an understanding of LOD drawing stages. • BOM & PLM Fluency: Experience managing and structuring complex bills of materials, product configurations, part numbering schemes, and direct experience with one or more Product Lifecycle Management tools. • Exceptional Communication and Organization: Knows how to read the room and adjust communication styles accordingly. Sets a high bar for clear, concise, and credible communication. A steady hand at the wheel during periods of ambiguity or change, while guiding the team toward world class project management practices. • Influence without Authority: An ability to guide project teams to success using trust, persuasion, diplomacy, persistence, and collaboration instead of formal job titles or direct reporting structures. • Resilience: Proven ability to drive projects to completion despite global supply chain headwinds or technical uncertainty. Ensure a “no surprise” mentality on project timelines, schedules, budgets and deployments with alternatives identified such that projects remain on schedule and within budget. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. PMP or CAPM certification preferred.
